Surf Vienna is a city guide with a difference. Vienna in Austria is a beautiful city, and this website does it justice with an excellent photographic tour of the city, really bringing it to life.
Using a Google map interface you can view the city map, and click on literally dozens of points of interest around the city. The map is easily navigable by dragging the mouse or by quick linking on one of the district links.
Icons are scattered all over Vienna, indicating photographs that you can click through to see 360 degree panoramic views. Icons represent churches, monuments, parks or buildings that you can look inside. This is a very visual representation of the one of Austria's finest cities.
The quality of the 360 degree panoramic visuals is excellent, and they really do transport you to Vienna. Along with each of the stunning visuals you can read hints and tips, and feedback from visitors about the locations.
There is plenty of interaction on Surf Vienna, if you have been to the city why not register a new landmark, and contribute your own recommendations and experiences. The format I hope will be extended to other cities, as the thought and coverage included really shows the level of work involved in the project.
As well as the interactive visual tour, you can find basic tourist information such as local etiquette and customs, visa and passport information and local electicity and currency details. The opening times of shops are useful to know, and while the local language is German, most people will speak English.
A simply stunning new version of the Surf Vienna website. If you plan to visit the city then it's worth a look, and if not then it may well persuade you that a city break to Austria is just what you need.
