AdFlyer is a large online marketplace, selling thousands of products across just about every category. Anyone can sell through AdFlyer in a similar way to EBay, only there is no listing fee.
The site is aimed at two different markets, individuals who want to sell items privately and merchants who want to increase their existing sales by listing all their products on AdFlyer as well as their own website.
Merchants get their own shop window, which is effectively their homepage within AdFlyer. A single merchant may have several thousand products listed for sale, and they build up feedback over time in the usual way, allowing you to gauge confidence. There are a few obvious advantages of AdFlyer over other competing online marketplaces:
Firstly you don't pay a listing fee, but rather a 5% commission on sales made. This will be a big draw for merchants as they only pay for new business, and independent sellers will prefer this arrangement to listing fees.
Inventory files follow a very uncomplicated protocol, and are easy to create from existing data sets and upload. Merchants will like the simplicity of the AdFlyer system in this respect, and the advert creation process for individual sales is also simple.
The main advantage however, is that the AdFlyer site is so nicely laid out for the customer. The search is good, the category selection and browsing is all very slick and well implemented, and the homepage is packed with relevant seasonal items.
The Shop Window system also works particularly well from the customer's perspective. This type of online marketplace site is a competitive niche, but after spending some time on AdFlyer, I think they have the edge in many respects.
